What do you love about music?
What I love most about music is how it brings people together and helps each person find their own voice. It’s wonderful to watch students grow in confidence as they discover new ways to express themselves — sometimes in ways they didn’t even know they could. Music becomes a shared experience where everyone belongs, no matter their starting point. It’s powerful, it’s expressive, and it creates connections that go beyond words. And honestly, it’s just a lot of fun — I love seeing students light up when they realize, “I can do this.”
Who is your favorite artist?
It honestly changes pretty often depending on what I’m listening to at the time. Right now, I’d say some of my favorites are Goo Goo Dolls, Shinedown, and P!nk — I love the emotion, energy, and storytelling in their music.
What are your top five desert island albums?
The Truth About Love – P!nk
Dizzy Up the Girl – Goo Goo Dolls
Amaryllis – Shinedown
Giant Steps – John Coltrane
Wicked – Original Broadway Cast Recording (This was my absolute favorite growing up! )
Do you play in a band or currently perform?
I’m not currently performing in a band, but I’ve had the opportunity to play in a variety of small jazz combos over the years. Right now, I’m taking a break from performing to focus on my family while continuing to stay connected to music through teaching and working with students.
