Phil Schurger has been teaching guitar for over 20 years. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from Northern Illinois University. He is a professor at the University of Saint Francis, where he teaches music theory, ear training, piano, guitar, jazz ensemble, and electronic music ensemble. Since the age of 17, Phil has played professionally throughout the United States and Europe, sharing the stage with artists such as Fareed Haque, Ravi Coltrane, Greg Ward, Nick Roth (Yurodny Ensemble), and Bolokada Conde. In 2018, he signed with Chicago-based ears&eyes Records, releasing his album Echoes of the Ancestors, which received airplay in North and South America and in Europe. The internationally recognized jazz magazine JAZZIZ has reviewed his work. Phil teaches students of all levels and is comfortable with all levels of players.
