Just teaching right now, taking time off to raise my family.
Jeff Amstutz is a Trumpet Professional and Highly Qualified Indiana Certified License Instrumental Music teacher, who has been teaching private trumpet/brass lessons for the past 24 years. He is the director of the award-winning Lakeside Middle School Instrumental Music program, is a member of the FWCS music enhancement committee for the largest school district in the state, and has been one of the leaders for the b Instrumental music program. Lakeside is the second-smallest middle school in FWCS and has the second-largest band program in the district. He has over 200 students in band, which is the main feeder for North Side High School. Mr. Amstutz holds a bachelor’s degree in music education K–12 with a major on trumpet from Taylor University (main campus) in Upland, Indiana. While in college, he won outstanding lead trumpet and solo awards at the Elmhurst College National Jazz Festival in Chicago and was lead trumpet in the CIDA National All-Star Collegiate Jazz Band held in Nashville, Tennessee. Mr. Amstutz was the featured soloist with the Taylor University’s Symphonic Band National Tour and was selected as one of the top three trumpet players in the past 30 years to come out of Taylor. Since graduating from college, Mr. Amstutz has taught high school and middle school band for 24 years and has played in many local bands and music groups, including “Clubber Lang” (The Freak Brothers), “Nostalgia,” Summit Brass Quartet, IPFW Jazz Ensemble, the Civic Theatre orchestra, and the New Millennium Jazz Orchestra (Northeast Indiana’s premier Jazz Ensemble). Mr. Amstutz has performed with many professional recording jazz artists, including Wynton Marsalis, Maynard Ferguson, Roger Ingram, Bobby Shew, Chuck Mangione, Craig Johnson, Jamie Aebersold, Herb Bruce, Butch Miles, Dennis Diblasio, Mark Colby, Frank Mantooth, and Bill Watrous. Mr. Amstutz’s students participate in many different contests and competitions throughout the state and have won many awards and scholarships. Many of his students have been selected to play in honor bands throughout the country, including in the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, the Youth Symphony, the All State Concert Band, different Drum Corps groups, the All State Jazz Band, and Blue Lake and Interlochen Fine Arts Camps. Currently, he has students majoring on trumpet in college and grad school, with many more just playing in college, teaching band, or playing professionally around the country.
