Do you play in a band or currently perform?
21 years in the United States Coast Guard Band, currently retired and freelancing around the country.
Barrett Seals served as Solo English Horn and oboist in the United States Coast Guard Band for 21 years. He was also a member of the Coast Guard Band Woodwind Quintet for 7 years. He has been featured frequently as a soloist and premiered numerous works for English horn and concert band including Hale Smith’s Recitative and Aria, Amparo Angel’s Adagio, and Ivan Tcherepnin’s Triple Concerto. Barrett’s performances with the Coast Guard Band have taken him to Japan, Taiwan, and almost every state in the US. He has performed for every president since William Clinton, at the US Capitol for members of Congress and for the State Funerals of Ronald Reagan, Gerald Ford, and George Bush. In addition to performing with the USCG Band, he has also performed with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony, the Cape Symphony (MA) and the Garland, Las Colinas, Irving, and Sherman Symphonies in Texas, and was a member of the American Wind Symphony for two seasons. Barrett Seals received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Alabama and his Master of Music degree from the University of North Texas. His principal teachers have included Rebecca Henderson, Charles Veazey and James Caldwell. When not playing the oboe or making reeds, Barrett enjoys cooking and spending time with his wife, Sara, and their two rescue dogs, Maya and Amos.
