What do you love about music?
I love how music can take the listener away from the mundane everyday, and all the emotions and stress we feel from that. For a moment, or even for an evening, there is a sense of release from our hectic every day lives. With that we can laugh or cry with the characters we are seeing or hearing even through our radios. Then, at then end of the evening, or drive home from work, we are left with a sense of peace and hope that everything will be alright in the end.
Who is your favorite artist?
As an opera singer, I absolutely love Russian soprano, Anna Netrebko. She has always been an artist I have always looked up to as a role model of what it’s like to be a soprano in the opera world. She is down to Earth, coachable, and easy to get a long with on and off the stage. Being a soprano doesn’t mean you have to be a “diva” in the negative sense of the word and Ms. Netrebko is a beautiful example of being just that. Humble, kind, and fabulous.
What are your top 5 desert island albums?
The Greatest Showman Soundtrack; Deluxe by Ed Sheeran; Toto IV by Toto; Verismo by Anna Netrebko; Eugene Onegin by Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Do you play in a band or currently perform?
I am not in any bands, but I do perform recitals seasonally, and am currently auditioning at different opera choruses in the Midwest.
Sarah is a graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU). While at IWU, she traveled to England and France singing with the IWU Chorale. She also traveled to Mexico to perform for OperaMaya Young Artist Program. Not only did Sarah teach her own private studio in college, she also was involved in several operas including “The Mikado,” “Dido and Aeneas,” and “The Tenderland.” Right after graduation, Sarah went on to teach Jr./Sr. High Choir in Wabash, Indiana. Currently, she enjoys teaching beginning piano and voice at the Sweetwater Academy and loves teaching all genres of music, not just opera!
